While munching on a couple slices of bread, a known realization hit me once more. I AM A LAZY ASS BLOGGER!
It’s been days since our seminar cum medical mission at Brgy. Baresbes, Dingras, Ilocos Norte happened, to which I promised myself to immediately blog right after the event. Oh well, as the saying goes, “Better late than never.”
As a requirement for my masters class in Nursing299, the entire group, which consisted of 15 students including myself had to conceptualize an entire seminar program. From the seminar theme to it’s title; rationale to the goals and objectives of the event. In short, we had to make a seminar proposal complete with details on program activities, projected budget, prospective speakers, seminar content and the like.
And came the day!
We encountered some technical difficulties during the time, so our previous plan of having a power point presentation had to be set aside. But they say, the show must go on. Luckily, all the groups in-charge of discussing the different topics, prepared pamphlets/booklets in Ilocano, Tagalog and English to be distributed to the audience to easily facilitate the seminar.
We made it through the ordeal of presenting nursing concepts to the community people. I even discovered that I can speak Ilocano better than I can ever imagine! hahaha…
More than that, what made the event more special are the community folks who came to learn. The discussion was interactive, with questions raised from one side to the other. Reality in a third world country is: HEALTH AWARENESS and HEALTH EDUCATION are not properly given by institutions. We only discover misconceptions when missions are done to marginalized communities.
Having said all that, in behalf of our class, a big thanks to all those who shared their time and effort. May we all move forward and live a healthier life.
